The Sun- Day 2

Here's what we did today at school:

This one needs some explanation.  We are making raisins so we put some green grapes in a bowl and placed it in a sunny window and then we started a raisin chart so we can graph how the grapes change over the next few days.

See you tomorrow!!

The Sun- Day 1

Here's what we did today:

Charlie is working on the letter A this week so he traced the upper and lowercase letter A's and then colored them.

Johnny is working on the letter S and he colored and cut out some "S" pictures to go in his picture box for later use.
Charlie putting together his "A is for Apple" puzzle.

Charlie working on putting his floor numbers in order.

Johnny playing hopscotch on the floor numbers.

Both boys playing hopscotch on the floor numbers.

Johnny's "S" paper mosaic.

Charlie's "A" paper mosaic.

We also read some books on the sun and discussed why it is so important.  The boys walked around with blindfolds on and we discussed why it was so hard to try and get where you are going in the dark and how much easier it is to go the right way in the light.  We talked about how Jesus is also called a light.  The  boys went outside this evening and made their respective letters out of sticks and rocks.  It was a busy but good day :-)

We know who made our world!

These past 2 weeks we have been focusing on Creation and today we finished!  Woohoo!  We have officially finished 2 weeks of homeschool and they have both been fun, crazy, frustrating at times,  but definitely worth it.  The boys did really well and they definitely have their Creation facts down now (or at least Johnny does.)  We also had our first soccer game last Saturday which was a lot of fun, even though we got stomped :-)  Johnny is really enjoying it and does well.  Today, we got to play with our homeschool friends and that was really nice.  I look forward to getting to do that once a week and I also look forward to our many field trips to come!  Here are some highlights from our time with Creation:

Johnny and Charlie working on Day 3 of their Creation Book.  They were gluing on apples and oranges to their trees.

Making animals and people out of play dough for Day 6.

 Johnny's person and animals.

Charlie's uhhh???? (I have no clue what happened to his person)

 Their Creation Books

Their favorite page out of their books.  They both chose the 6th day.

 Their Creation Numbers Poster

Where did that cutie come from?  :-)

Our chart for things God made and things people made.

While I was cleaning up inside, the boys made one pile of the things made by God and one pile of things made by people.  They did a really great job with this!

I know this has nothing to do with our school but the boys got to ride in the back of Daddy's truck this evening as he backed it in the driveway.  Too fun!

Check out his co-pilot.

We have our second soccer game tomorrow morning and then will begin our first unit on the Sun on Monday.  I will also be starting a Letter of the Week curriculum with Charlie.  We are excited to begin another week of homeschool!

We survived our FIRST day of homeschooling!!

Yeserday was Labor Day and our first day of homeschooling.  Jesse had the day off so he got to hang around and help out, which was really nice.  We are doing My Father's World Kindergarten Curriculum and the first 10 days are on Creation.  We started with Day 1 :-)  After we are done with Creation we will start on our normail Unit Study.  Here are some pictures of what we did today (there are a lot because Jesse was playing paparazzi while we were doing school.)

Calendar time! (I think in this picture I was giving them their "Super Concentration Gum."  I told them it would help them be good listeners while we learned but that if it stopped working they would have to spit it out.)

Ready to start learning!

 Naomi coloring

Ok, I am SUPER excited about this find!!  They were decorating their binder covers for the binders that their work from the year will go in and they wanted to use these new "do-a-dot" markers that I bought.  I actually found them at the Dollar General on Pleasant Hill Rd.  and they are called Bingo Markers and are $1 a peice as opposed to like $15 for a pack of the name brand ones!!!

 Naomi's beautiful picture!

Reading about the first day of Creation.

Working on our letters.  Johnny has his down but Charlie needs some work.

I just love the look on Charlie's face in this picture!

Paying attention while I give them instructions on what to do for their Day 1 page for their Creation Book.

Their completed Day 1 page for their Creation Book that will be complete on Day 7

They both colored and cut out their number 1 and glue them to their Creation Numbers Poster

We had a pretty good first day and we are looking forward to more school fun!  We ended our rainy cool homeschool day with homemade vegetable stew, fresh homemade bread, and a homemade blueberry coffee cake, YUM!

We had been past due for an ER trip :-)

Last night Charlie fell off of a 5 1/2 foot brick retaining wall and landed on the top of his head on a concrete sidewalk..ouch..  He was OK, which was shocking to both Jesse and I, but I called the on call nurse just to see what her opinion was and she said that we should take him to get looked at just in case.  We had been at the park in downtown Duluth so we drove home and I dropped Jesse, Johnny, and Naomi off and Charlie and I headed down to Scottish Rite.  (I should insert here that we were just there last week because Johnny had a very painful ear infection.)   Luckily, there was hardly anyone in the waiting room but we still ended up having to wait for a long time.  We saw the doctor and then she held him there for a bit for observation but determined that he was probably fine and we got to go home finally at 12 am.  Needless to say, it was a LOOONG night but Charlie had a great time watching Disney movies and Nick Jr. at the hospital.  I also need to mention that the doctor and all of the nurses were GREAT!  All in all not a horrible night ;-)  Here are some snapshots of the patient:

He had been dying to try on the blue gloves the whole night so I finally got some down for him and he wanted to bring some home for Johnny and Naomi so I got some for them too.

Days and Evenings at the Park

The past couple of days and today, we have spent a lot of time at the park!  Its been hot but there has been a cool breeze which makes it somewhat more bearable especially in the evenings.  Last night we walked into the Duluth Town Green and played around the fountain and the playground.  Today, I took the kids for a picnic lunch and playtime at WP Jones Memorial Park.  There's a creek there that they always play in and we inevitably wind up leaving covered in mud :-)  Baths were definitely in order when we got home and then naps, so it is nice and quiet around here right now <sigh>.  Lets see how long that lasts!  Here's some pictures from our recent park time:

This is actually in our front yard and not a park..oops.. I'm coaching Johnny's soccer team this season so we've been trying to practice a little bit at home to get us both ready.

It turns out that  Naomi is quite skilled at dribbling the ball!  Only 4 more years and she can play too ;-)

All that soccer sure does make a girl thirsty!!

It looks like we are halfway there to our own soccer team!

Naomi (wearing Johnny's shin guards) became mesmerized by the fountain for about 5 minutes.

Wow, is it just me or is he incredibly handsome?!

Having fun playing in the fountain.

Just hanging out watching our babies play in the fountain.

 "Mom, I'm wet and cold!!"

 Driving already..sheesh..

 Just a little playtime.

Umm.. what's wrong with this picture?

Heading home after a fun time in the creek.

She sure does love her biggest brother.

Oh!  I almost forgot!  I have everything ready to start school next Monday..woohoo!!  There were a couple of changes I had to make:

After putting the cute border and the letter z back on the wall about a million times and having to collect the sticky tack from Naomi's mouth, I decided to move my lines up a bit and get rid of the cute border :-(

Yay for my new storage cart that I can move around the house with us and yay for having everything organized!! Let's start school!!
