Apple- Day 5

Well, today has been pretty relaxing and productive.  It was much needed after a very busy Tuesday of Ladies Bible Class, school (we learned about Johnny Appleseed and played a memory match game with our ABC game cards.), and soccer practice.  We got a late start today and it pushed back lunch and naps.  I also let the kids play outside for a long time because it is absolutely beautiful out there today!  I'm trying to not stress out as much when it comes to being on a certain schedule with school and household chores (which seem to NEVER end.)  Today, I think I've done ok in this department.  Anyways, on to school things:

This wasn't on the agenda today but we were reviewing how A is a vowel and how it is used in word like CAT and MAN.  I was writing some words with A in them on my white board and Johnny wanted to write some words on his white board.

Charlie worked on tracing some of his alphabet.

Johnny worked on some  handwriting and drawing pictures of words that start with the letter sounds we've gone over so far.

He drew 2 lungs for L, haha.

Then, we made apple trees by tracing their hands and arm for the trunk and cutting that and some green paper out and gluing it on blue paper and then finger painting apples on them.

They turned out really cute!  Although, I'm thinking Charlie's is looking a little gruesome.  Just in time for Halloween :-)

Monday Funday

Today, we reviewed our letters sounds that we've done so far and then we:

Charlie poked holes in his D's with an extra large thumb tack.
Johnny worked on his math page.

Charlie did some tracing.

Johnny completed his cut and paste page.
Charlie did some sequencing.

I cut up 3 different types of apples that we got from the apple orchard on Friday and we did some apple tasting.  They felt, smelled, looked and tasted how the apples were different.

I also cut  apple in half so that we could see the start on the inside and we counted how many seeds were in the apple.  We also read a couple of books about dividing apples and we learned about fractions.  Johnny  had the idea to get all of the seeds out of the apple for us to save and plant outside.

They really liked this apple tasting!

Apples and Dinosaurs

We started a new unit today.  Johnny will be working on the letter A and we will learning about apples and other fruit.  Charlie will be working on the letter D and his activities are dinosaur themed.  Today,  I introuced their new letters to them and then we did some activities.  I am also including some pictures of things we do during calendar time just for fun :-)

Our calendar looks a little crazy because I let Johnny write in the numbers and then I let Charlie put the number cards up and trace the numbers.

Johnny wanted to take some pictures, so he took this one of Charlie and then wanted to take one of me...ugh....

Counting our "100" sticks.  We have 19 so far.

Putting our # 19 bee on the bee hive.

Johnny working on his A picture cards.

Charlie showing of his D tracing.

Charlie sorting his upper and lowercase dinosaurs.

Charlie chillin with his D puzzle :-)

We learned about how apples grow.

Then, we worked on coloring some fruit for our fruit poster.

 Our completed fruit poster.

Johnny wanted to take a picture of Charlie and I holding the fruit poster.

Haha, just for fun!

See you tomorrow!

Rain Out and Leaf Outlines

Well, we were rained out of going to the apple orchard yesterday so instead we had some fun play time with friends and did a couple of apple activites.  Today was cleaning day for me, since we played with our friends yesterday, and cleaning day is always hectic so I'm glad we had a light load for school today.  We reviewed our alphabet and played a matching game with our ABC game cards.  The boys love that!  Then, we found some leaves from outside and we painted their outline with water colors.

Leaves and.... SNAKES!!!

Today, we worked on letter sound practice and then we.....

Charlie put this puzzle together correctly all by himelf!

Johnny's # page.  He pickss a # from our number cup and then writes the # and draws that many objects in the box and then picks a new # for the next box, etc.

Charlie worked on poking holes around his C's.

I just realized that I forgot to check his work and he mixed 2 letters up...oops.

 We did some leaf rubbing.

The boys working on our treet sculpture.

 The finished project.

We have some KILLER show and tell around here!

We love the cool things that Daddy brings home from work!!

See you tomorrow!  We are headed to an Apple Orchard!
