Johnny can read!

Johnny can officially sound out words on his own now!  It was very cool to watch him read several words and 3 "Bob" books on his own today :-)  Here's what else we did at school today:

 Charlie made a hippo.

 Johnny spelled some words.....

 and read some words.

 Then, he read some books!

The boys also finished up some dinosaurs that we started yesterday.

Finishing up unit 7!

Even though I haven't been blogging, we have still been doing school, I promise!!  We have 1 more day left in unit 7, Us.  Then we will be moving on to Dinosaurs.  I am excited because I have some very books on request at the library.  Today, we reviewed our vowels that we've learned so far, A and U.  Charlie worked on a couple of G for gumball activities and Johnny also had a worksheet to complete.  Every day we have learned about a different sense and today was taste so I blind folded the kids and had them taste some different things and tell me what they were.  That was a lot of fun!

I'm thinking we may need to implement a dress code ;-)

My newly re-decorated, winter themed, bulletin board.

Johnny was telling me what the 5 senses are.

As you can see, Charlie was ready and trusting, where as Johnny was covering his mouth and didn't want me to put unkown things in there, lol.

I had a dream last night that I went to school in my underwear.....

No, really, Charlie went to school yesterday in his underwear :-)  This is what we did at school:

Just kidding!  We did do that at the beginning but that's all.  We've had a bit if a break due to Naomi having a stomach virus, Thanksgiving, and then myself having a stomach virus :-/  It was good to jump back into it yesterday.  I started by introducing the letter sound for U to Johnny and introducing the letter G to Charlie.  We did some letter and letter sound review and then moved on to other things:

Johnny made his picture cards for the letter U.
 Charlie practiced his cutting.

 Charlie did some color matching.

We read a book aout the sense of touch and then we did an activity where I put several objects in a bag and without looking the boys had to reach in and guess what they were holding in the bag.

They really enjoyed it!  After a while, I put a sock on their hand and then had them do it again to see if it made it harder.

Fun times!

Perseverance

Today we reviewed our letter sounds, Johnny and I worked on sounding out words and reading some words for the first time!  It was awesome to see him read a couple of words by himself!  Charlie worked on cutting out a fish the WHOLE time Johnny and I were working together, lol.  Here's Charlie's fish:

Then we read "The Little Engine That Could," and talked about perseverance.

We ended school by playing Johnny's favorite game ( a matching game with our ABC game cards.)

See you tomorrow!

House Cleaning Day

As you know by now, Thursdays are house cleaning days around here but we do make time for school :-)

We did some letter sound review first and then we started our other activities.

These pictures are really funny!  They are of the boys moving like different animals.  They had fun with this activity!

Turtle Time

Today we,
worked on writing T's and 6's.

Charlie did his F do-a-dot page.

 He also did some sequencing.

Johnny matched his picture cards to the correct letter.

Then, he worked on a sound discrimination page.

While Charlie worked on some pre-writing skills.

Then, we made turtles! We started by each boy painting 2 back sides of paper plates, green.

Then they we drew and cute out 4 legs, a head, and a tail.  We of course had to glue on some googly eyes!

Since we had to wait for the paint to dry most of the afternoon, Jesse helped them staple their plates together and attatch their head, legs, and tails.

They turned out REALLY cute!!

With the turtle, we are learning to not quit but to persevere.  A great lesson at any age!
